What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is a personalized approach that uses a variety of yoga practices to support health and well-being. Unlike a general yoga class, yoga therapy sessions are tailored to the individual and designed to address specific physical, emotional, or nervous system needs.

The process always begins with an assessment. During this initial session we review your medical history, current concerns, and goals. This helps guide the development of practices that are appropriate for your body and your circumstances.

A yoga therapist works with the whole person, considering factors such as movement patterns, stress levels, health history, and daily life. Practices may include gentle movement, breathwork, relaxation techniques, meditation, yoga philosophy, mudras, and awareness practices that support balance in both body and mind.

Yoga therapy is adaptable and respectful of each person’s beliefs and background. Practices can be offered in a way that aligns with a client’s own belief system, making the work accessible to people from many different traditions and perspectives.

Following the assessment, we work together to develop practices that support your goals over time. Yoga therapy often unfolds over several weeks, allowing practices to evolve as your body and experience change.

The goal of yoga therapy is not to achieve a particular pose, but to develop sustainable practices that support long-term well-being and help you build a more supportive and compassionate relationship with your body.
